From Tradition to Tomorrow
Our story begins in the early 20th century in Wakefield, Massachusetts, where Woodex was first introduced as a trademark of The Neveroil Bearing Company. Over the years, the company evolved, becoming The Wakefield Corporation and shifting its focus to metal fabrication. In 1961, the Woodex trademark and shop moved to Robinhood, Maine, officially forming the Woodex Bearing Company, Inc. And in 1983 new ownership, moved Woodex to its current home in Georgetown, Maine.
In 1985, Woodex expanded its expertise beyond bearings, partnering with the inventor of a mechanical screw conveyor seal designed for high run-out tolerance. That collaboration led to the launch of the industry-first H-style seal, setting new standards in conveyor sealing technology. Recognizing the growing demand for reliable, custom-engineered seals, Woodex established the MECO Seal division—short for “Mechanical Concepts”—to focus exclusively on soft-face mechanical seals.

Better Together
Since 2011, we’ve been proud to operate as an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) company. There is a shared sense of pride and accountability that shows up in everything we do—from our rigorous in-house testing to the collaborative relationships we’ve built with customers around the world.
For many years, Woodex and MECO operated as two distinct divisions under one roof, each delivering high-performance, USA-made products to the world’s leading industries. In 2025, we joined forces as Woodex MECO Industries—bringing together decades of expertise in seals and bearings under one name and one mission.
All of our manufacturing happens in our 17,000 square foot, employee-owned facility in Georgetown, Maine. We combine traditional craftsmanship with modern machining technology to produce custom shaft seals and wood bearings built for quality, durability, and long-term performance. Our fully equipped facility is home to a team of skilled employees who take pride in every product we make.
